Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)

Ageing / Home and Community specialisation 
This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs.  Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

This is a blended-learning Course, which caters for differing organisational and participant needs. The program is flexible, combining self-paced/self-directed online learning, supported by systematic trainer/assessor contact and on-the-job workplace skills development and practical assessment conducted in the Participant’s workplace.  A range of assessment methods collect participant’s performance and knowledge evidence: computer-scored multiple-choice quizzes; written knowledge questions; simulated workplace tasks and activities; practical demonstration tasks and activities; research projects and case studies; workplace demonstration and where appropriate, third-party evidence reports provided by the Participants workplace supervisor(s) an Enrolled Nurse or a Registered Nurse.
The normal full-time study load for a participant to complete the Course is 532 hours over approximately 58 weeks (13.5 Months) duration. The average Estimated Full Time Study Load (EFTSL) of this Course is 10.23 hours per week. This nominal duration of the qualification may vary for each participant according to the existing knowledge, skills and support needs of the individual Participant or a Participant’s cohort. Participants may also complete the Course within the nominal durations if they successfully obtain recognition for previous learning or study.  
All Participants in the Course will have unrestricted access to 51 training videos from the Altura Learning catalogue of professional development training resources. The total viewing hours are 1260 minutes or approximately 21 hours. The average length of each video is approximately 25 minutes. Included with each Video are a range of non-assessable Self-Extension questions and activities which should take approximately 30-35 minutes for Participants to complete.

This Course has been specifically designed for Participants that are currently employed, or about to be employed, in a suitable residential aged care facility. The Training Package guidelines state that each learner is required to participate in a minimum of 120 hours of practical placement in an actual organisation such as an: Aged Care facility; Home Care provider; Disability provider; Group Home. Noting this, the Academy program is delivered over 52 weeks of tuition and expects the student will be engaged in a minimum of 4 hours’ of paid employment, per week throughout the duration of the course (192 hours in total). This allocation exceeds the minimum 120 hours of required work placement
Each participant will commence their Workplacement training as soon as possible after the Course commencement, and no later than week 4, or the commencement of the HLTAAP001 Recognise healthy body systems UOC. Participants will be supervised in their Workplacement activities by a Trainer/Assessor, or a Registered Nurse, or an Enrolled Nurse.
Participants must nominate their current place of employment if it is an appropriate facility.  In all cases, the Academy engages with the nominated workplace to ensure that it can provide a suitable environment to gather practical experience across all tasks outlined in all UOC’s.
